Christine and Roger both finished their previous working lives and established Smarter Safety in 2004. This small venture has grown into a large business employing a number of family members working from our home offices or the mobile office when we are on the road. A “family business” in the true meaning of the words, and we have plenty of resources with 8 children between us and at the last count, 17 grandchildren.
We initially went “on the road” travelling all round Australia mailing out a brochure in advance of visiting different regions in a LandCruiser with a large printer in the back and towing a camper trailer. That soon evolved into an off-road caravan that has since been replaced with a small mobile home. With Christine’s extensive Safety, Quality & Enviro knowledge plus Leigh’s IT skills, Smarter Safety is clearly leading the others in this industry.
Smarter Safety Skills
Christine (as Christine Richter) had 14 years with Pioneer Road Services (now Fulton Hogan) working at the "coal face" with her last 8 years as Quality, Safety & Enviro Manager for VIC, SA & NT. Her formal study was completed in July 2005 with a Graduate Degree in OH&S. Roger with 30 years leading his family's supermarket chain understands the difficulties experienced by independent business operators.
Smarter Safety Baseline
Christine’s Pioneer paving crews were primarily made up of first generation European migrants; great fellas who built terrific roads but many didn't speak English well and most struggled to read and write it. Christine soon learn't to
re-write "lawyer talk" procedures from Head Office making them brief & easy while ensuring a compliant result. The Smarter Safety IMS has been written in this manner.

Fill your forms by talking to your mobile device and if you have to write, all forms have a minimal writing requirement by the operator. Furthermore, you will not need an expensive "high-flyer" to manage this IMS on a daily basis.

We head-hunted son Leigh from his position as IT Manager for a major Melbourne financial institution to share in the ever-increasing interest in the business. Leigh now lives and breathes this industry, spending much time at the coal face on major projects around Australia and being our first responder for all customer queries. Leigh has a passion for research and understands all that government legislation.
